It is a story of an incredible woman who pursues her two biggest passions, playing violin and observing birds. Her journey of bird-watching takes her from her passion through her research and being rejected by magazines for her articles as not being scientific enough to selling in the tens of thousands of her books worldwide.

This lifestyle however, did require personal sacrifices: she had to retreat from human society and rarely allowed visitors to her house or garden because humans scared the birds. The birds were forever coming to sit on the keys of the typewriter when she tried to type, or the keys of the piano when she tried to play – and would also leave their droppings behind, which got in the way somewhat. Living with birds generally involved a lot of cleaning. Gwendolen ‘Len’ Howard (1894-1973) was a woman of two great passions, birds and music. Her observations of birds were published in various periodicals and two books. Other nearby attractions include Framlingham Castle, Sutton Hoo, Melford Hall, Africa Alive Zoological Reserve and Yoxford Antiques Centre and Gardens.

Do any of my millionaire readers have a spare 3/4 million to buy this for me please? Then I can return the garden to its former glory! 😉 😊 The owner of this Badger estate was Isaac Hawkins Browne, who had made his money in the Midlands coal- and iron ore fields. This funded a Grand Tour, and he returned with antiquarian tastes. As part of William Emes’ gentle reworking of the landscape features, Browne also commissioned a pavilion in the Greek Revival style to overlook the scene from James Wyatt, one of the most prolific architects of the Georgian period . Though its exterior is fairly plain, the salon within was elegantly decorated. Below was a service floor, originally with a hot air heating system based on a Roman hypocaust. The Birdhouse overlooks Badger Dingle, a picturesque ravine in a woodland setting on the edge of Badger village. There are good walks around the Dingle with plenty of wildlife to look out for. See if you can find the Rotunda, icehouse, tunnel and cascades. Badger is a small and pretty village in the middle of a triangle formed by Telford, Bridgnorth and Wolverhampton.

Close to the delightful village of Grundisburgh, Bird Cottage is well located to make the most of everything that's on offer in Suffolk with Woodbridge just a few miles away known for its shops, markets, activities on the River Deben and its Tide Mill, a rare example of a tide mill with a working water wheel. Take a scenic walk or hike anywhere within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths region which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and you'll be rewarded with some breath-taking views and wonderful photo opportunities. In 1938, Len Howard moves from London to a little house in Sussex, which she later calls Bird Cottage. There, she observes birds and gains their trust, thus creating a special bond.

Wales, 1900. Len’s father brings home a small bird that has fallen from the nest. And this is the beginning of Len’s journey with the birds. Throughout the years, she collects more birds and goes bird-watching with her father.
