Stomach/abdominal pain or cramping, nausea, diarrhea, or weakness may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Taking more than your recommended dose will not make this product more effective, and may cause serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: nausea/ vomiting/ diarrhea that doesn't stop, muscle cramps/weakness, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, decreased urination, mental/mood changes (such as confusion). The sugar moiety of the sennosides is removed by bacteria in the large intestine releasing the active anthrone fraction. This stimulates peristalsis via the submucosal and myenteric nerve plexuses. Hypokalaemia (resulting from long-term laxative abuse) potentiates the action of cardiac glycosides and interacts with antiarrhythmic medicinal products, with medicinal products which induce reversion to sinus rhythm (e.g. quinidine) and with medicinal products inducing QT-prolongation. Concomitant use with other medicinal products inducing hypokalaemia (e.g. diuretics, adrenocorticosteroids and liquorice root) may enhance electrolyte imbalance in particular in patients with irritable colon. Symptoms may also occur generally as a consequence of individual overdosage. In such cases dose reduction is necessary.

Prolonged excessive use or misuse of these products may also result in the development of atonic colon. For patients on a sodium-restricted diet, there is a very small amount of sodium in SENOKOT ® Syrup. See Non-Medicinal Ingredients on label. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Drug Interactions: There are no known drug interactions with sennosides. New medications or inadequate physical activity are both factors that contribute to constipation after surgery. Your physician may recommend a laxative if you are recovering from surgery and having problems with constipation.

It is not certain whether senna is effective in treating any medical condition. Medicinal use of this product has not been approved by the FDA. Senna should not be used in place of medication prescribed for you by your doctor. ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Each SENOKOT ® tablet contains 8.6 mg standardized sennosides from natural senna. Senna has been used in alternative medicine as a possibly effective aid in emptying the bowel before a colonoscopy. Overdose: The major symptoms of overdose/abuse of stimulant laxative, including those containing senna, are griping pain and severe diarrhea, leading to excessive water loss (dehydration) and possible electrolyte imbalance (i.e. hypokalemia). In case of overdose: call a Regional Poison Control Centre and/or your physician and/or your local emergency number immediately, or go to your local hospital emergency, even if you do not notice any signs or symptoms. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. Using it for long periods during pregnancy is not recommended. Consult your doctor for more details.

If the symptoms worsen during the use of the medicinal product, or there is no bowel movement after three days, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted. Chronic use may cause pigmentation of the intestinal mucosa (pseudomelanosis coli), which usually recedes when the patient stops taking the preparation. The product contains lactose monohydrate. One tablet contains 31.64 mg lactose monohydrate. Patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine. Most data refer to extracts of senna pods containing 1.4 to 3.5% of anthranoids, corresponding to 0.9 to 2.3% of potential rhein, 0.05 to 0.15% of potential aloe-emodin and 0.001 to 0.006% of potential emodin or isolated active constituents, e.g. rhein or sennosides A and B. The acute toxicity of senna pods, specified extracts thereof, as well as of sennosides in rats and mice was low after oral treatment.Call your healthcare provider if your constipation does not improve after 1 week of using senna, or if constipation gets worse. Do not take senna for longer than 1 week, unless your healthcare provider has told you to. There are no reports of undesirable or damaging effects during pregnancy and on the foetus when used at the recommended dosage. In cases of intestinal obstructions and stenosis, atony, appendicitis, inflammatory colon diseases (e.g Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), abdominal pain of unknown origin, severe dehydration state with water and electrolyte depletion. Drink plenty of fluids (6 to 8 glasses a day) while you're taking senna or your constipation may get worse. How long to take it for Yellow or red-brown (pH dependent) discolouration of urine by metabolites, which is not clinically significant, may occur during the treatment.
